White Ribbon Australia Workplace Accreditation
The Department of Tourism, Major Events, Small Business and the Commonwealth Games is an accredited White Ribbon Australia Workplace.
The department is recognised as a pioneer in contributing to national cultural change to prevent and respond to violence against women, using workplace practices.
As a White Ribbon Workplace, the department promotes respectful relationships and gender equality within the workplace and demonstrates a culture of zero tolerance of violence against women.
The Workplace Accreditation Program supports workplaces to adapt organisational culture, policies and procedures, equipping staff with the knowledge and skills to address the issue of violence against women, both within the workplace and broader community. Accredited workplaces demonstrate effective leadership, resource allocation, communication, HR policy development and training. Accreditation lasts for 3 years, evidencing an ongoing, sustainable commitment to the prevention of violence against women.
Domestic and family violence is a workplace issue. Research indicates:
- 1 in 6 Australian women and 1 in 19 Australian men have experienced physical abuse from a current partner or former partner.
- Two-thirds of Australian women affected by domestic and family violence are employed, and 1 in 5 Australian women say violence continues at work.
- 9 in 10 incidents are not reported.
All forms of violence experienced by men and women—inside and outside of our workplace—are unacceptable.
This program will help us to better recognise, prevent and respond to violence—every one of us has the right to feel safe and supported in the workplace.
