Queensland researchers developing break though COVID-19 vaccine

For over 20 years, Queensland has built a reputation as a leader in innovation – from Smart State to Advance Queensland and now the state is leading the world in developing a potential vaccine for COVID-19.

The University of Queensland’s School of Chemistry and Molecular Biosciences – which has gained international attention as one of six organisations in the world to be tasked with finding a vaccine for coronavirus – will receive $16.5 million in joint funding from the Queensland and Australian governments, together with the Paul Ramsay foundation.

As the only Australian organisation and one of six globally to be tasked by the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), the University of Queensland will partner with the Doherty Institute and CSIRO to undertake the of a potential vaccine while undertaking clinical trials to test safety and efficacy.
