Tourism Policy and Strategies
The success of Queensland’s tourism industry is a key focus of the Queensland Government.
The Department of Innovation, Tourism Industry Development and the Commonwealth Games collaborates across industry and government to develop and implement policies and strategies aimed at growing the Queensland’s tourism industry.
Advancing Tourism 2016-20
Advancing Tourism 2016-20 is the Queensland Government’s plan to grow tourism and jobs. It seeks to capitalise on the opportunity afforded by unprecedented growth in tourism to increase market share and boost tourism jobs by targeting four priority areas – grow quality products, events and experiences; invest in infrastructure and access; build a skilled workforce and business capabilities; and seize the opportunity in Asia.
Advancing Tourism in North Queensland 2016-20
A supplement to Advancing Tourism 2016-20, Advancing Tourism in North Queensland outlines key actions specific to the North Queensland context.
The strategy includes a suite of actions to support the continued growth of the tourism industry in the North Queensland region.
Queensland Ecotourism Plan
The Queensland Ecotourism Plan 2016-2020 provides the framework for building a thriving ecotourism industry and delivering new ecotourism experiences in Queensland’s national and marine parks and other natural areas.
Queensland Tourism and Transport Strategy
The Queensland Tourism and Transport Strategy (QTTS) has been developed jointly by the Department of Innovation, Tourism Industry Development and the Commonwealth Games and the Department of Transport and Main Roads.
The QTTS details the Queensland Government’s plan to improve access to our world class tourism destinations in an effort to enhance the visitor experience and grow the tourism industry.
The strategy lays out a vision of “providing an exceptional journey for every visitor”, taking a holistic view of tourism and transport and placing visitors’ needs front and centre.
Informed through extensive consultation with government and industry, the QTTS has four priority themes:
- Visitor information
- Transport services
- Ticketing and products
- Planning and investment
Actions will be achieved through strong coordination and collaboration between government and industry to invest in infrastructure and services that enhance access and improve connectivity. Key to its success will be strengthening partnerships across all levels of government, and with industry.
