Ipswich

Map of Ipswich region

Our 12 Queensland regions are the best that Australia has to offer.

Only 40 minutes east to Brisbane and an hour from the Gold Coast, Ipswich is located centrally in South East Queensland. To the west are the rural and agricultural areas of the Brisbane, Lockyer and Fassifern Valleys.

This region is home to memorable tourism experiences and filled with innovators with ground-breaking ideas that are putting us on the world map.

We're backing Queenslanders who live and work in this region through initiatives like the development of the most advanced military vehicle manufacturing facility in Australia and the ‘Reimagined’ Ipswich Festival - an 11-day event that celebrates the people and culture of Ipswich.

We know innovation and tourism are crucial to the region’s growth – now and in the future.

The Ipswich region has many local success stories supported by our strong innovation and tourism investment. We’re working together to deliver jobs, economic growth and benefits for your community, our state and the world.

Innovation

Anyone can have a great idea or come up with an innovative solution to a problem. The hard part when you’re in a region can be getting access to the help you need to turn your idea into a business and your business into a global success story.

Advance Queensland is helping Queenslanders to grow their business and build our innovation economy.

Ipswich has many local success stories that we support though programs such as Ignite Ideas.

We have designed or funded many programs to support innovators across Queensland including:

  • Advancing Regional Innovation Program - gives each region up to $500,000 to develop region-wide innovation projects.
  • Regional Startup Hubs Support Program - a local skills-building program delivering education and networking events.
  • Startup Onramp Regional Queensland Program - shows people with a great idea how to become a startup founder.
  • Regional Angel Investors Support Program – helps investors to find innovators who need financial backing.

Case study: Rheinmetall creates jobs

Rheinmetall Defence Australia is establishing its Australia-New Zealand Headquarters and Military Vehicle Centre of Excellence (MILVEHCOE) in Redbank, Ipswich. This will be the most advanced military vehicle manufacturing facility in Australia, and is set to drive a high-tech jobs boom when operational in 2020, creating over 450 jobs at MILVEHCOE and its supply chain in the first 10 years.

Construction valued at $170 million will support 300 jobs over two years, including apprentices and trainees. Over 90 per cent of all trade packages have been awarded to SEQ sub-contractors and suppliers, valued over $100 million. This is game-changing for Ipswich, as the MILVEHCOE puts Rheinmetall in the box-seat for future defence contracts supplying both the Australian Defence Force and Australian’s international allies.

Tourism

Tourism is crucial to Queensland’s economic growth and the success of the state’s tourism industry is a key focus of the Queensland Government.

We collaborate across industry and government to develop and implement policies and strategies aimed at growing the tourism industry and Ipswich is no exception.

Ipswich is part of the Greater Brisbane Region which is full of natural wonders and unique attractions that tourists love to visit.

We are helping the region to:

  • develop more tourism investment attractions
  • grow tourism and jobs with the Advancing Tourism 2016-20 Strategy
  • improve access to our tourism destinations through the Queensland Transport and Tourism Strategy
  • support major events to create jobs and boost the economy
  • grow tourism development projects.

Our support is helping to develop and boost tourism and innovation in the Ipswich region.

Case study: New Ipswich festival

Tourism is essential to many rural and regional areas and events play a big role in creating jobs, attracting investment and helping communities. We know just how positive a great event can be to a region which is why we are supporting the ‘Reimagined’ Ipswich Festival. The festival is being held as part of the Queensland Destination Events Program (QDEP) and is an 11-day event that celebrates the people, places, arts and culture of Ipswich.

In the 13th round of QDEP, 20 events across eight Queensland regions are receiving a total of $828,000 to bring tourists to regional Queensland.

Designed to support event delivery and maximise impact, the funding provided by QDEP is used for marketing, strategic plan development, personnel and infrastructure investment. This year’s Ipswich Festival will be held from 9 July – 19 July 2020 and will deliver much-loved events like the Parade of Light and Fire on the River, along with fresh new festival content.
